Baltimore Fun Facts!
Baltimore’s strategic location on the Eastern Seaboard places it within easy driving distance of Washington DC, Philadelphia and New York. Baltimore/Washington Airport (BWI) is the second fastest growing airport in the country. BWI is a short ride from downtown and is served by over a dozen major airlines. Baltimore is also served by Amtrak, making it extremely accessible from anywhere.
Inner Harbor is the place to see in Baltimore! The world renowned National Aquarium, Maryland Science Center (with IMAX Theatre), the U.S.S. Constellation, the Power Plant, (featuring Hard Rock Café and ESPN Zone), and Port Discovery Children’s Museum are just a few of the incredible places to visit.
Baltimore is famous for its succulent crabs and seafood. Baltimore offers every kind of ethnic fare imaginable, but no visit is complete without sampling the world-famous Chesapeake Bay cuisine.
The Baltimore Museum of Art features one of the most comprehensive Matisse collections in the world, while the Walter’s Art Museum is home to the largest collection of illuminated manuscripts in the world. The original Star Spangled Banner manuscript may be seen at the Maryland Historical Society.
Oriole Park at Camden Yards is home to the world champion Ravens and the famous Orioles. Two blocks from Camden Yards is the birthplace of baseball legend Babe Ruth.
Baltimore is also the birthplace of poet Edgar Allan Poe. The city has celebrated Poe by naming their football team after his most famous poem, The Raven.
In 1873, merchant Johns Hopkins bequeathed funds to start a hospital and university in his name. Today, these interconnected institutions are among the greatest for higher education and patient care.
