Postdoctoral position: Herpesviruses cause acute diseases and then undergo latency from which they can reactivate, again causing diseases. We study 4 prevalent human herpesviruses, including HSV-1, HSV-2, HHV-6 and HHV-7. Our research goals undertake two directions: (i) molecular mechanisms in viral replication and latency, including viral DNA replication, DNA packaging, host shutoff, cellular stress and suicidal host functions, leading to apoptosis, alterations of host transcriptional pathways, immune response. (ii) Design of vectors for gene therapy and vaccination, concentrating on oncolytic viral vectors employing mice model systems. Development of amplicon-based anti viral vaccines employing HSV and HIV antigens. Contact Prof.N.Frenkel nfrenkel@post.tau.ac.il
